Description

Our client, a leading Industrial & Commercial Electrical Contractor is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator / Project Manager to join their team and manage electrical projects from the initial estimating and bidding stage through construction, close-out, and final billing. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of ICI electrical construction, excellent estimating abilities, and the organizational and leadership skills required to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Full time, permanent role. Salary: 110K - 140K with full benefits. Company location in Brampton. Work from office & home & at work site location.

Responsibilities


We are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator / Project Manager to join our team and manage electrical projects from the initial estimating and bidding stage through construction, close-out, and final billing.
The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of ICI electrical construction, excellent estimating abilities, and the organizational and leadership skills required to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
This position plays an important role in ensuring projects are accurately estimated, properly planned, professionally executed, and completed safely, on schedule, on budget and maintain profitably, while maintaining strong relationships with clients, general contractors, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors and field personnel.

Electrical Estimating

  • Review drawings, specifications, addenda, tender documents and contractual requirements.
  • Prepare detailed electrical estimates for Industrial, Commercial and Institutional projects.
  • Perform detailed material and labour take-offs.
  • Develop labour-hour estimates based on installation requirements, project conditions and productivity expectations.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotations from electrical suppliers, equipment manufacturers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare bid comparisons and ensure quotations comply with project specifications.
  • Identify potential project risks, exclusions, clarifications and scope gaps.
  • Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings and tender meetings as required.
  • Prepare complete and competitive tender submissions.
  • Review estimates with management prior to submission.
  • Prepare value-engineering alternatives when appropriate.
  • Maintain historical estimating information and pricing databases.
  • Assist with project budgeting and cost forecasting.

Project Handover & Start-Up. Upon project award:

  •  Conduct a formal handover of the estimate into project management and general manager.
  • Review estimate assumptions, labour budgets, material allowances and subcontractor pricing.
  • Establish project budgets and cost codes.
  • Review contract requirements, drawings, specifications and project schedules.
  • Identify long-lead equipment and critical procurement requirements.
  • Prepare purchasing schedules and issue purchase orders.
  • Coordinate project start-up meetings with field personnel.
  • Ensure Foremen understand:
    - Project scope
    - Labour budget
    - Schedule
    - Major equipment
    - Project risks
    - Milestones
    - Reporting expectations
    - Develop project cash flow and billing requirements where required.

Project Management

  •  Manage assigned projects from award through completion.
  • Maintain responsibility for the overall financial performance of assigned projects.
  • Coordinate project activities with:
    - General contractors
    - Owners
    - Consultants
    - Engineers
    - Property managers
    - Suppliers
    - Subcontractors
    - Field supervisors
  • Attend project meetings and site meetings as required.
  • Review project schedules and ensure electrical work is properly coordinated.
  • Monitor project progress against schedule and labour budgets.
  • Work closely with Foremen to identify potential labour or productivity issues.
  • Provide technical assistance and project direction to field personnel.
  • Review shop drawings and coordinate equipment submissions.
  • Coordinate material and equipment procurement.
  • Track long-lead equipment and delivery schedules.
  • Prepare and respond to RFIs.
  • Maintain proper project documentation.
  • Review site instructions, contemplated change notices and revised drawings.
  • Ensure project documentation accurately reflects scope changes.

Change Order Management
The Estimator / Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring that additional work is identified, documented and recovered.
Responsibilities include:

  • Identify changes to the original contract scope.
  • Prepare detailed change-order pricing using Accubid Software.
  • Track labour, materials, equipment and subcontractor costs associated with changes.
  • Maintain backup documentation supporting change-order pricing.
  • Submit change quotations promptly.
  • Follow up on outstanding quotations and approvals.
  • Maintain an up-to-date change-order log.
  • Ensure field personnel do not proceed with significant additional work without appropriate authorization whenever possible.
  • Assist with negotiation and resolution of disputed changes.

Cost Control & Financial Management

  • Establish project budgets based on the original estimate.
  • Monitor:
    - Labour hours
    - Labour costs
    - Material costs
    - Equipment costs
    - Subcontractor costs
    - Change orders
    - Project billing
    - Project profitability
    - Review estimated cost versus actual cost throughout the project.
  • Prepare monthly project cost forecasts.
  • Identify potential cost overruns early and develop corrective action plans.
  • Review project Work-in-Progress information with management.
  • Assist accounting with progress billing and statutory hold back requirements.
  • Ensure approved change orders are incorporated into project billing.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables associated with assigned projects where required.
  • Complete final project cost analysis following project completion.

Procurement

  • Prepare purchase orders for major materials and equipment.
  • Negotiate pricing with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Review supplier quotations for scope compliance.
  • Coordinate release dates and delivery requirements.
  • Track major equipment including:
    - Distribution equipment
    - Switchgear
    - Transformers
    - Panels
    - Lighting
    - Lighting controls
    - Generators
    - UPS systems
    - Fire alarm equipment
    - Electrical specialty equipment
  •  Identify opportunities for material savings and alternate products where permitted.

Field Coordination

  • Maintain regular communication with Project Foremen and site supervisors.
  • Review labour performance against estimated hours.
  • Assist Foremen with manpower planning.
  • Review upcoming material requirements.
  • Identify potential scheduling conflicts.
  • Support field personnel with technical and contractual issues.
  • Conduct project site visits to review:
    - Progress
    - Productivity
    - Quality
    - Safety
    - Material requirements
    - Coordination issues
  • Promote strong communication between the office and field.

Project Close-Out

  • Ensure projects are properly completed and closed out, including:
    - Deficiency completion
    - As-built drawings
    - Electrical inspection documentation
    - Operation & Maintenance manuals
    - Equipment documentation
    - Testing reports
    - Training requirements
    - Warranty information
    - Spare materials
    - Final change orders
    - Final billing
    - Project cost reconciliation
    - Lessons-learned review

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of within the electrical construction industry.
  • Electrical trade background and/or 309A Construction & Maintenance Electrician licence.
  • Master Electrician designation considered an asset.
  • Experience working with general contractors, property managers and institutional clients.
  • Experience estimating projects ranging from small renovations and service upgrades to large multi-million-dollar electrical contracts.
  • Previous experience estimating and/or managing ICI electrical projects.
  • Strong understanding of electrical construction methods and practices.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret:
    - Electrical drawings

  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes and construction standards.
  • Strong understanding of labour units, productivity and electrical material pricing.
  • Experience with electrical estimating software.

    - Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with project management and construction management software is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
