French Immersion Teacher – Montessori School Grades: Junior Kindergarten (JK), Senior Kindergarten (SK) & Grade 1. Starting Sept. 2026 School year! Our client, a well-established Montessori school, is seeking a passionate and dedicated French Immersion Teacher to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating an engaging, nurturing and stimulating French-language learning environment for students in Junior Kindergarten, Senior Kindergarten and Grade 1. The teacher will encourage students to develop academically, socially and emotionally while fostering independence, curiosity, confidence and a lifelong love of learning. Full time, permanent position. School location is Markham, ON. Salary $31 - $33 per hour with benefits after 3 months (50%). Based on 7-8 hour work day. Hours Mon- Fri: 8.15 am - 4.30 pm
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic educator who is fluent in French and English, has a genuine passion for working with young children, and understands or is interested in the Montessori approach to education. The teacher will encourage students to develop academically, socially and emotionally while fostering independence, curiosity, confidence and a lifelong love of learning.
- Deliver engaging French Immersion instruction to students in JK, SK and Grade 1.
- Create a warm, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment that encourages students to communicate primarily in French.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate lessons and activities aligned with curriculum expectations and the school’s Montessori philosophy.
- Incorporate Montessori principles and hands-on learning experiences into daily instruction.
- Support students in developing French language skills, including speaking, listening, reading and writing.
- Encourage independence, self-confidence, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Observe and assess students’ academic, social and emotional development and provide appropriate feedback and support.
- Adapt teaching strategies and activities to accommodate different learning styles, abilities and developmental needs.
- Establish positive relationships with students and create a respectful and supportive classroom community.
- Collaborate with Montessori educators, teachers, administrators and support staff to ensure consistency in student learning and development.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with parents regarding student progress, development and classroom activities.
- Maintain accurate student records, observations and assessment documentation.
- Participate in school activities, meetings, professional development and community events as required.
- Promote the values of respect, responsibility, independence and kindness throughout the school environment.
- Ensure a safe, welcoming and well-organized classroom environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Education or a related field.
- Teacher’s certification or eligibility for certification is preferred.
- Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken.
- Previous experience teaching JK, SK, Grade 1 or early elementary students.
- Experience in a French Immersion environment is strongly preferred.
- Montessori teaching experience or Montessori certification is an asset.
- Strong understanding of early childhood development and age-appropriate teaching practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, nurturing and enthusiastic approach to teaching.
- Ability to create an engaging and positive learning environment.
- Strong organizational and classroom-management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team.
- Genuine passion for working with young children and supporting their individual development.
